John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments Well, looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer for a new animated series. While this may not be the period in Star Wars time I was most curious about, If Dave is leading the charge, I’m all in.

Ben | 53 comments All of the star wars animated shows ended up with a ton of fans. I'm excited to get in on the ground floor for this one.

Looks like it’s all about pilots. That sounds fun.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments Yay! Another animated series. Dave Filoni. Fighter pilots. I am sooo in.

message 5: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments I wonder what the animation style would be. Based on that picture it seems to be more like Rebels than Clone Wars. Hopefully it would not be like the Forces of Destiny. Still can't get over Anakin's face.

I don’t know why, but I got the sense this one could be more anime influenced. I would definitely be down with that, but I guarantee I’ll watch it regardless if they use tissue paper cutouts.

There's a good reason for that: http://www.tor.com/2018/04/26/star-w...

Filoni says it is an anime-inspired style, which I think is pretty cool and could bring a lot to star wars

I'm excited on one hand..but where's the Ashoka Tano/Sabine Wren buddy spin-off I wanted!?

I do hope Ashoka shows back up at some point to wrap up her story.

As a fan of anime, I'm on board with the style change.

I'm glad Filoni's on board.

My oldest daughter, who fangirls over SW with me, said almost those exact same words : )

It's Filoni, I'm sure he'll manage to work Ahsoka in somehow, unless other material featuring her is in the works. (I vote for her own movie!)

Yes. I want an Ashoka movie. And a show. I want it all!

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments Check out the series Avatar: the Last Airbender. That is where Dave earned his chops! And the banner has that Airbender look.

I loved Avatar and legend of Korra.

I didn't realize Dave had worked on Avatar.

message 14: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments Same here. Aside from Star Wars, the Avatar series is my personal favorite animation. How wonderful if the style is similar.

I'm only just now catching up with Clone Wars. I haven't watched Rebels yet. I have a copy of the book, Ahsoka.

Question: Where does the book fit in her story? Should I watch Rebels before I read the book?

message 17: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments No. Ahsoka ends at the start of her role in Rebels and hints at Ashoka's role in the new Clone Wars.

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments First trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_Ws...
has a primer date of October 7th 10 Pm

Recommend you watch the Avatar: Last Airbender to get use to the animation.

Trike | 4913 comments What are those ships at the 42-second mark?

message 21: by John (Nevets) (new)

John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments I get almost more of a “Titan A.E.” Vibe to the fluidity of the animation then Avatar, either series. But, either way it sure is dynamic, and significantly different from the clone wars/ Rebels style.

And by the way I meant that as a compliment, I’m one of the few that really dug that movie. But then again I like “Hudson Hawk”, so my barometer may be off a bit.

message 22: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments I like the trailer and the animation. Sounds like they are using the same actors for the voice talent.

Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie are voicing their respective characters.

Thanks for the reminder. I really hope Disney XD in my country also airs it *light sabers crossed*

John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments Speaking of YouTube, if you haven’t watched any of the official previews they’ve had on there, I’d take a few minutes to do that. They really are fun and give more perspective to what is going on, also help to get you even more excited for the series.

My guide shows new episodes airing on Disney Sundays at 10pm EST and reruns the following Monday on Disney XD at 9pm.

John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments Just had a random thought. Based on the time frame, and type of location this show apparently takes place in/ at, Han Solo could finally have a cameo in one of the animated series. I still can’t believe he was the only major 1-6 movie characters without one in either “Clone Wars”, or “Rebels”.

Obviously probably not voiced by Ford, but it wouldn’t be the first time they used a voice actor instead of the real actor for a role in the animated series.

Anyway, like I said, random thought.

message 31: by KevBayer (last edited Oct 06, 2018 07:33PM) (new)

KevBayer (SporadicReviews) | 513 comments David W. Collins (Lucasfilm employee, VA, and podcaster) does a good OT Han Solo. I don't think I've heard him try an older Han though. Maybe they could him to do it.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments Finally the Disney Channel in my cable aired this!

I really liked the first one hour episode. Kaz is such a dork and I liked how motivated he was. (view spoiler)

Loved the Oscar Isaac's comeback as Poe, I hope he'll still pop up from time to time now that his comics had ended.

My cable provider had the first 3 eps available to watch On Demand the day the first episode aired. And having watched all of them, I had the opposite reaction to the main character.

John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments Louie wrote: "My cable provider had the first 3 eps available to watch On Demand the day the first episode aired."

Hulu live did as well. I only watched the first 2, figuring I didn't want a 3 week break between seeing the next episode. I'll watch the third one sometime in the next week I think. Bit of a slow start, but the other animated SW shows have been a bit of the same for me, and then you get sucked in. I know if I give it some time, it will grow on me. Kaz has a lot of Sokka from "The Last Airbender" in him. That was a great side character, I'm not sold on it working as the lead character. But I will give it time, these creators have not let me down yet.

message 35: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments So far I am liking the guys in the Parts Store, the character who cheated at darts and everyone in the mechanics crew. You got a hint of what the first season plot might be at the end of 2nd episode. So far so good.

Me too, and the janitor! What species are those three characters? Anyone know?

So far, I'm not crazy about Kaz, Tam needs to be the main character.

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments Orka is a Chara-Fan, Flix is … can not find anything. Bird like thing? Office of Acquisitions is the official name of the parts store.

message 38: by John (Nevets) (new)

John (Nevets) Nevets (Nevets) | 994 comments I thought it fun that the Office of Acquisitions had the same robot as Watto's salvage yard from Episode I. I wonder if someone will punch it in the nose.

message 40: by Trike (new)

Trike | 4913 comments I tried the show. I couldn’t get into it.

I like Oscar Isaacs but I can’t stand Poe Dameron, so it's cool he’s doing the voice but I can’t muster any interest.

Then there were little things like the young star pilot coughing because there’s smoke in his cockpit but he’s wearing a closed helmet with its own oxygen supply. I mean, even for Star Wars that’s dumb.

Bailed at 3/4 of the first episode when I realized I hadn’t been paying attention since the second commercial break.

message 41: by KevBayer (last edited Oct 18, 2018 10:02PM) (new)

KevBayer (SporadicReviews) | 513 comments Yeah, lots of things like that smoke in the cockpit (and in space!) scene. It's definitely geared more for young kids than previous SW.

I agree with you about Poe.

I just noticed in an earlier post I said I was "crazy" about Kaz. I meant "not crazy" about him as the main character. He looks like he's in his late teens early 20's, but acts like he's 12. (I edited my previous post.)

message 42: by Ian (new)

Ian Seal (Rebel-Geek) | 85 comments Kaz's physical comedy stuff reminds me of Jar Jar. It's disappointing that they seem to be making it for young kids. They spoiled us with the intelligence of The Clone Wars & Rebels. I'm going to keep watching & hope that Kaz matures somewhat.

message 43: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments Watched up to episode 3. Kaz's antics is starting to get old. I am not too bothered with the technical errors but now I am thinking why on earth Poe entrusted the spying stuff to him with so little basis. The Resistance really have serious HR issues.

message 44: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Murrell | 81 comments I watched the first two episodes and didn't care for them. Neither did my eleven and nine year old sons. That being said, Ahsoka was very annoying the first two seasons, but growth and maturity made her a great character by the end of Clone Wars and into Rebels. I don't plan on watching anymore, but if Kaz's maturity is the only issue some have, he could easily grow and become a favorite.

message 45: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 992 comments I agree, Phillip. I did enjoy the Colossus portrayal, expanded worldbuilding and stuff. Except Phasma. Not sure why but I never considered her as an interesting character.

message 46: by Rob, Roberator (new)

Rob (robzak) | 5267 comments Mod
So far I'm not loving it, but I'll probably keep watching for the rest of the season at least. I agree that Kaz is annoying.

I recall having similar feelings at the start of both Clone Wars about Ahsoka and Ezra at the start of Rebels. Now Ashoka is my favorite character in all of Star Wars, and Ezra grew on me.

I liked the premiere episodes OK, but episode 3 wasn't as good. The last few minutes offered a glimmer of something better being possible.

message 47: by Stephen (last edited Oct 19, 2018 08:21PM) (new)

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments I am on the fence but still leaning to it is going to be okay. The Phasma Book by Delilah S. Dawson adds some depth to her story and set up the competition between her and Red stormtrooper suit guy named the Cardinal in the book. The main plot of this series will be why the First Order picked Hosnian Prime to be destroyed in Force Awakened by their planet destroying weapon so that is kind of cool.

message 48: by KevBayer (new)

KevBayer (SporadicReviews) | 513 comments Rob wrote: "I recall having similar feelings at the start of both Clone Wars about Ahsoka and Ezra at the start of Rebels. Now Ashoka is my favorite character in all of Star Wars, and Ezra grew on me."

True that.

Stephen wrote: "why the First Order picked Hosnian Prime to be destroyed"

Because it was the current seat of the New Republic, most of their leadership and the bulk of their fleet was there.

message 49: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments The series is to give a fuller explanation for the destruction.
