Trike | 4913 comments So yesterday Brie Larson asked Entertainment Weekly if they wanted to help break the internet. So here’s Captain Marvel:

Trike | 4913 comments Here’s the actual article. As I was scrolling through the photos I was like, “Cool, cool, ooh, Skrulls, interesting” and then I got to the second fighter jet photo. Audible gasp!

This is gonna be GOOD!

John (Taloni) Taloni (JohnTaloni) | 2618 comments ^^ Can't believe we're getting Skrulls, that was the capo di tutti capi of silly ideas from the early days of Marvel. They've doubled down on it over and over again and somehow it works. The original little green men, now somewhat bigger and a lot tougher. I'm thinking we get the "undercover Skrull" storyline. Haven't read much Captain Marvel but this could pull me in.

Trike | 4913 comments The trailer dropped this morning: http://youtu.be/Z1BCujX3pw8

I got chills. Geek chills. Nerd chills. Nostalgia chills. Skrulls! Kree Guard! Blockbuster!

This should be titled Captain Marvel: The Return of Coulson. (Although based on this I’m guessing he’s only in a very small part of it.)

I wonder if we should start a FAQ for the under 25 crowd explaining stuff in the trailer like Blockbuster and Pagers..

John (Taloni) Taloni (JohnTaloni) | 2618 comments While you're at it, could you see if there was ANY reasonable explanation for big hair and acid washed jeans?

message 8: by Phil (new)

Phil | 1023 comments The same explanation as jeans with giant holes in the knees and bodies covered in tattoos today I would expect.

Ian Seal (Rebel-Geek) | 85 comments The trailer almost made me cry the first time I watched it.

Ben | 53 comments @Rob as a 25 yo. I totally remember blockbuster but I'm not sure my dad ever had a pager when I was around....

Jack: That goddamn suit is yours?
Reggie: That was in style a couple years back, man.

Rik | 777 comments I'm very meh about it. I'll of course see it given her character is supposed to matter so much in Infinity. The trailer didn't suck but it didn't suck me in either.

Part of my ambivalence is that the only times I've found Carol interesting in the comics are when she was raped (the controversy was interesting) and Rogue stealing her powers. And obviously neither of those will be in the movie.

Louie (RMutt1914) | 671 comments Um, have you read Kelly Sue DeConnick's run of Carol Danvers? Or maybe try Margaret Stohl's current The Life Of Captain Marvel (2018) #1. Idk, it just seems like you haven't read enough recent Captain Marvel, if those are the two things that stand out for you.

Eventually I'll read them but it will be a year or two. I have Marvel Unlimited so I do a lot of online reading. I was doing a reading of everything X-men from the start back in 1964 but started getting bored of them around 1997 (which corresponds to my memories of when they really started to suck for a while). My goals were to once I reached House of M era (about 2002) to start reading everything Marvel put out from then on. But I also knew I wanted to do a Spiderman read from the start as well so I decided before I caught up to 2002 I'd catch up on Spidey and then do X-men and Spidey until 2002 and then everything. I'm only on 1965 with Spidey so it will be quite a while before I catch up to X-men let alone current era.

My knowledge of Carol is 95% X-men. I've read the rape of Ms Marvel story from the Avengers and then everything X-men related thereafter. After that though its mostly only her interactions with GotG. Never read her solo series though I will in a year or three when I'm caught up to modern times.

Trike | 4913 comments Trailer 2, story time: http://youtu.be/0LHxvxdRnYc

Notice at the end they are using the mohawk outfit. They’re hitting 3 out of 4 of Carol’s suits from the comics, which is impressive in and of itself.

I think this is the most excited I've been for a Marvel movie in awhile. That trailer looks fantastic.

Trike | 4913 comments And Chewie the cat is in it!

Why not. They can be cows.

According to it's tag in the trailer the cat's name is Goose, not Chewie. So maybe not a Flerken.

Yeah, they just wanted Nick Fury to pet a cat!

Names aside, they would piss a lot of fans off if that is just a normal cat..

Or... an EVIL Flerken. Or a Skrull, imitating a Flerken. Or they changed the name just to F with the hardcore comic nerds.

message 24: by Phil (new)

Phil | 1023 comments I've seen theories that it's the cat ("The last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye") that takes Fury's eye.

message 25: by Wilmar (new)

Wilmar Luna (wilmarluna) | 231 comments I thought the second trailer was MUCH better than the first. Sadly, I still didn't get excited about Skrulls or energy blasts from the hand. But it did look very cool.

That would be funny if it were a Flerken. That way she can have a cat in the sequel, and they can do a callback. Especially since in the comics Rocket and Chewie eventually have a bit of a dust-up when he thinks Chewie’s a Flerken.

message 28: by Rik (new)

Rik | 777 comments Still very ambivalent about this.

Visually it looks amazing.

But after two trailers Brie Larson is utterly underwhelming. Her acting exudes all the enthusiasm of a porn star in her 5th hr of 6 hr 500 person gangbang. I'm not sure its possible to sound less badass or intimidating than in the latest trailer when she says "I'm not going to fight your war, I'm going to end it."

I'll see it because it matters so much for Avengers 4 but if not for that connection I'd probably skip and wait for Redbox.
