Tom inadvertently affects a listener feud, the truth about George R. R. Martin and why we think Zeroes is number 1.

message 4: by Trike (new)

Trike | 4913 comments Golly, thumb on the scale vis a vis Dara/Trike, there. I don’t mind since Dara is one of the smartest and nicest peeps out there in S&L land.

As I cohabitate with a polyglot who was born in the Netherlands (no, not Wabash; she’s from Texas), I’m told “hygge” has a combination “You” + “eh” sound for the Y in the word. Pronounced like this: http://youtu.be/A2lnlAOAcKQ

But major props to Queen V for making that connection with cozy Fantasy.

A recent SF book that I’d put in the cozy category is A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers. I can think of tons of short stories that fill the bill, such as Alan Dean Foster’s “Swamp Planet Christmas”, where the young daughter of a harried scientist on Venus sends messages to Santa Claus asking for presents... using official communications channels. Hilarity ensues.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2253 comments Oh my goddddd, you guys are all just the kindest, sweetest people! <3 I’m glad you find my Quick Burns posts helpful! And I’ve never been happier to hear my name mispronounced so many times. Truly, the honor is mine.

And Trike, I am so lucky to be competing with you for the most S&L points. Luckily the system is basically Whose Line Is It Anyway. Or Jacksonville Pool for those of you that watch The Good Place. We’re both winners here.

Rick | 2193 comments Supremes... Someday, I think you should have Dara and Trike guest host the podcast....

Isak Theodorsson | 20 comments Aha Danish. So I haven't had missed a new Swedish sub-genera called "Logging Punk".

Michael (MichaelRowe01) | 16 comments I’ve listened to every episode of S&L and this is the first time I am actually reading the book at the same time... Hope I finish before the warp up episode...

Personally I'm hoping for Ka: Dar Oakley in the Ruin of Ymr. It sounded the most interesting of the three.

I'll fourth it. It does sound the most interesting.

Stephen Richter (StephenofLongBeach) | 923 comments I used my Audible credit for Ka: Dar Oakley in the Ruin of Ymr. have The City of Brass lined up for 2019 when I need to start thinking about my 2018 Hugo nominations ( I have 4 novels already slotted ) but since I have 1 left to finish my Sword Challenge as The Legion of Flame and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch will give me 34 Veronica's pick will complete me.

Veronica mentioned some books she had on her desk and hinted that one of them might be the Dec. pick.

It was a brief mention that a World Fantasy Award nominee was sitting on V's desk, that she was planning to read it, and possibly make us read it as well.

Robert Lee (harlock415) | 154 comments I'd be happy with City of Brass. I just got an ARC of the second book, Kingdom of Copper too.
Changeling is horror so odds are against it. We've already read Jade City, Spoonbenders and Ka I've heard really good thing about
